The women’s Tour de France will rise from its ashes in 2022. A long-awaited return to the big stage of cycling! The race will start in front of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and will include eight stages from July 24 to 31, with a finish at the top of the Planche des Belles Filles.

Recently appointed director of the event organized by Amaury Sport Organisation, former professional cyclist Marion Rousse unveiled on Thursday the route that will cover 1029 km in 8 days across the country.

A women’s Tour de France has existed in the past in different forms. Held in parallel with the men’s Grande Boucle from 1984 to 1989, it was then organized under other names before disappearing in 2009 due to a lack of funding.

The race route, officially named Tour de France Women with Zwift, will head to eastern France along four flat stages, two more with a hilly profile and two mountain days.

Symbolically, the women will climb the Ballon d’Alsace, the first mountain pass climbed by the Tour de France in 1905, and will compete for the final yellow jersey at the top of the Planche des Belles Filles, also the finish point of the men’s Grande Boucle in 2022.
